GWA addresses gender issues at workshop
At the Regional Workshop on Optimisation for Sustainable Water Resources Management (OPTIMA), which took place at Qawra, Malta from 28-29 May, Chrisje van Schoot, Senior Programme Officer of GWA addressed the importance of gender involvement in water resource management.

Latin American and Caribbean chapter of Travelling Exhibit
In cooperation with IW-Learn a set of 10 different panels was produced with text in Spanish and English. Later a second set was printed with text in 4 languages: Spanish, English, Portuguese and French. The exhibit was launched at the 3rd biennial GEF IW Conference in Salvador, Brazil in June 2005. After that the exhibit travelled through the following countries of Latin America: Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Jamaica, Mexico, Bolivia, Panama, and Argentina, where it was displayed at several international conferences as well as at national and local events. During its display other activities like seminars, radio programmes, drawing competitions for children, essay competitions for students, were organised to raise awareness about gender and water. These activities strengthened the exhibit on display and managed to reach many people.

Traveling Exhibit
As "one picture tells more than a thousand words", GWA developed a photo exhibition showing different aspects of gender related to water. The main objectives of this exhibit are: to raise awareness about gender and water issues to strenghten capacity in community-based groups and organisations and to address gender equity in integrated water resource management. Together with GWA members and partners from the respective regions, the exhibit was developed for the Latin American and Carribean region in 2005, an African Chapter was developed in 2007, followed by a South Asian chapter in 2008.

GWA South Asia Regional Workshop: Strategic Planning for Mainstreaming Gender in IWRM
The first Gender and Water Alliance (GWA) South Asia Regional Workshop, which was held from 23 to 25 January 2007 in Kathmandu, Nepal, had about 50 participants. They were both women and men, from NGOs, water networks, donor organizations and academia in Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka as well as representatives from Water Aid, U.K. and the GWA Secretariat, the Netherlands. The Workshop was co-hosted by the Nepal Water for Health Foundation (NEWAH), one of the largest NGOs in Nepal working on water, health and sanitation from a gender and poverty perspective.

GWA/AIT Regional Workshop: Strategic Planning for Mainstreaming Gender in IWRM in Southeast Asia and the Pacific
From 18-21 July 2007 a GWA/AIT Regional Workshop on Strategic Planning for Mainstreaming Gender in IWRM was held for Southeast Asia and the Pacific at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand. The workshop was organized by the Gender and Water Alliance (GWA) and was co-hosted by AIT’s Gender and Development Studies Programme. A total of 33 participants and 20 graduate students and staff participated in the workshop.

Together with the famous Brazilian artist Ziraldo Alves Pinto, GWA has developed four booklets about gender and water, specifically targeted at school children and illiterate people.
