First Asia Pacific Water Forum attended by GWA Chair
On 3-4 December 2007 the first Asia Pacific Water Forum took place in Beppu, Japan. Sara Ahmed, Chair of the Gender and Water Alliance was invited to attend the forum and was interviewed by the magazine "Terra Viva" about women participation in water management issues. On the second day of the forum Sara Ahmed participated in a the panel discussion " Increasing Capacity for Local Actions". In this discussion Sara Ahmed outlined the GWA’s mandate and the challenges faced, that range from, monitoring impacts of our ToTs, looking at gender mainstreaming as an empowering process (and not simply ‘a toolkit approach’) and assessing the quality of participation of poor women and men in community-level water management.
