File Gender Scan Methodology for water utilities (2011)
The Gender and Water Alliance (GWA) has designed this Gender Scan Methodology to assist water and sanitation utilities in identifying how effectively they are mainstreaming gender in their policies, practices, and procedures, and to assist them in identifying areas where they can further strengthen gender mainstreaming. The gender scan methodology can be used to assess gender mainstreaming opportunities throughout the utility’s operations and management, or can be limited to a specific component or activity the utility would like to focus on.

With a view to increasing access to Basic Services in Water and Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) for rural people, SNV Rwanda assisted government districts to draw up an inventory of all stakeholders in the field for a clear overview of the available and required services. In addition to working with district authorities, SNV has had a fruitful collaboration with two partners, nationally COFORWA and internationally PROTOS, both of which have been very active in the WaSH sector.
