GWA member Bikash Subedi wins "Eco-Peace Excellence Award 2010"
Bikash Subedi presented his research titled “Organic Herbal Production and its Relation with the Environment” during 15 minutes to UNEP offcials, Environment Minister and officials, INGO/NGO activists from Asia and Pacific, Civil society Organisations and research fellows from Governmental and Non-Governmental institutions in Asia and Pacific.
The study is based on research in two rural areas of Nepal, up-stream part of Gaindakot VDC and Ratanpur VDC - both in Nawalparasi District, targetting the rural villagers as the main beneficiaries. Bikash did a base-line survey in the villages to get primary data, but also collected information from government line-agencies at local and district level as well as from NGOs.
The study makes three (3) main recommendations i.e.
a. Small land - Big Utilization (the integration of agriculture, livestock and herbs)
b. Own Brand name of organic herbal products
c. Merge the groups into herbal cooperative for Equity.
Apart from Bikash Subedi, also 2 other presenters were awarded the “Eco-Peace Excellence Award 2010”
