Francophone ToT workshop Gender Mainstreaming in IWRM
GWA together with the host organisation Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine (IAV Hassan II) organized a Training of Trainers of 7 days in Rabat, the capital of Morocco, from October 27th to November 2nd, 2008. The training was co sponsored by WADImena/CRDI from Egypt

File Regional ToT Workshop: GENDER and IWRM
Together with the Institute for Environment and Water, GWA organized this 5 days training workshop in Limuru, Kenya from 25 till 29 November 2007. It was attended by thirty one participants (20 women and 11 men) drawn from the Civil Society Organizations and Networks, Ministry of Water (Kenya), various New Water Sector Institutions implementing reforms, consultants and other representatives from various institutions. The report describes in detail the contents of most of the sessions, like key gender concepts, social constructs of gender and four different frameworks for disaggregated gender analysis. A lot of content is exemplified through specific reference to-, and cases from the local situation in Kenya. Moreover the report explains and compares a great number of facilitation methods and elaborates on the particulars of the group work and plenary discussions.

File First Arab Region ToT Workshop: Gender Mainstreaming in IWRM
From 26 November- 02 December 2007, GWA conducted its first regional Training of Trainers course in Gender Mainstreaming in Integrated Water Resources Management for the Arab region, in Tunisia. The course was hosted by the Center for Arab Women Training and Research (CAWTAR) in Tunis, and organized in collaboration with AWARENET, Cap-Net, IDRC/WaDImena and GEWAMED. The TOT course aimed to strengthen the capacity of trainers and increase the number of trainers in the Arab Region that can effectively train others in Gender mainstreaming in Integrated Water Resources Management. A total of 13 women and 6 men coming from Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia and Yemen participated very enthusiastically in the course. By the end of the course the participants had produced 15 action plans on mainstreaming gender in IWRM in their own countries. This report describes and reviews the many issues involved with course preparations, provides the 7 days programme schedule with the sessions and experiences; and gives a detailed account on lessons learned with recommendations for future courses.

File International ToT workshop for strategizing gender mainstreaming in water and sanitation management
From 11-17th of April 2007, Utthan People's Learning Centre for Water and Sanitation organised a international training of trainers for strategizing gender mainstreaming in water and sanitation management. This ToT was supported by GWA and took place in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, India. The complete report of the workshop can be downloaded here.

A joint programme of GWA together with Both Ends and the Comprehensive Assessment of Water Management in Agriculture (CA), started in 2005.

Successes and Failures in Gender Mainstreaming in Integrated Water Resources Management
The electronic conference series "Successes and Failures in Gender Mainstreaming in Integrated Water Resources Management" aimed to collect, share and analyse information on the successes and failures in the practice of mainstreaming gender in order to make recommendations for improving practice. The results of the e-conference series are a basis for continued discussions and promotion of Gender Mainstreaming in IWRM in the sector.

Gender Mainstreaming in Water Management for Agriculture
This e-conference concerned the "why" and "how" of gender mainstreaming in water management in agriculture, and was held as part of the programme "Effective gender mainstreaming in water management for sustainable livelyhoods: From guidelines to practice". The results of the E-conference were shared at the 4th World Water Forum in Mexico in March 2006 and also served as an input for the "Minimum Agenda on Mainstreaming Gender for Researchers, Practicioners and Gender Experts." The Gender and Water Alliance convened three series of e-conferences up til date. From January-September 2002 an e-conference series titled "Successes and Failures in Gender Mainstreaming in Integrated Water Resources Management" was conducted, in 2005 an e-conference was held titled "Gender Mainstreaming in Water Management for Agriculture" and in 2007 the e-conference "Gender, Water and Integrity" took place.

Gender, Water and Integrity
This conference ran from 26 March to 13 May 2007 in English and Spanish and discussed the following three topics: 1. Corruption in the water sectors: different impact on women and men, and different integrity practices. 2. Good practices of breaking with corruption in the water sectors, cases. 3. Suggestions and strategies for formulating a policy paper on Gender, Water and Integrity. The background paper, intorduction to the three topics as well as a summary of the discussion of every topic can be found here.

File Report on the Second Workshop on Gender, Water and Equity. April 2009, Mumbai, India
Within the framework of the Crossing Boundaries: Regional Capacity Building on IWRM and Gender & Water Project, GWA was again one of the contributors to the second workshop on Gender, Water and Equity which was held from 27 April -1 May 2009 at the Kalina Campus in Mumbai. A total of 20 participants from India and Nepal participated in the training. Apart from a detailed description of the individual training sessions, exercises, and evaluation experiences, the report features the account of a fascinating plenary on gender, water and sanitation issues in urban slums, which took place after the field visit of the participants to an urban slum in Mumbai.
